Soon, candidate property practitioners (previously known as “intern estate agents”) will not have to complete an intern logbook anymore, the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority has announced.
The requirement, which has been in place since the 2008 Standard of Training of Estate Agents Regulations came into effect, will end on 1 July 2024 for both new and current candidate property practitioners.
Instead, principals and mentors will have to submit a standard letter confirming the candidate has completed an internship or a practical training course. Under the Property Practitioners Regulations, 2022, candidates must complete a practical course consisting of a maximum of six modules over a maximum of six months.
The PPRA will provide a standard letter by 1 July, along with guidance on practical training requirements.
2024 CPD programme opens
The PPRA has also opened its Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme for 2024.
To participate, all eligible property practitioners must complete four CPD modules per calendar year, pay the required fee of R1 700 per participant for the calendar year, and complete their personal Professional Development Plan.
In a change from previous policy, property practitioners who passed the PDE4 exam between February and June 2024 will also be allowed to take part in this year’s CPD programme. Those who pass from July onwards will have to wait until next year.
Attending the PayProp Roadshow later this year will earn agents non-verifiable credit in Property Rental Payment Processing – a key module for residential rental professionals. Keep an eye on your inbox to see when and where this year’s events will take place!
