The Ontario government has recently unveiled the "Get It Done Act," a new bill aimed at accelerating infrastructure and housing development while keeping costs down across the province.
The bill's key provisions focus on streamlining environmental assessments for major projects such as highways and hydro transmission lines, as well as transit-related measures such as automated license plate renewals.
On the housing front, the government is consulting fast-growing municipalities and regions, such as Barrie, Hamilton, and Waterloo, for their views. These areas have been invited to propose changes to previously approved official plans to support local priorities, while also supporting the province’s goal of building 1.5 million new homes by 2031.
Despite concerns about environmental impact and resource allocation, Cabinet members see the bill as a major step in reducing red tape across transit, infrastructure, and housing sectors. Property managers could find themselves managing larger and more diverse portfolios as new housing projects are expedited.
